ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY FOR NACAD HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTING SYSTEMS
Usage:
NACAD documents the intended purposes for using its resources and services through a set of documents and other artifacts available on the NACAD portal.
The policies for utilizing NACAD computational resources follow best practices established by SINAPAD, X-SEDE/EUA e PRACE/UE.
NACAD resources must be used exclusively for work directly related to the project for which authorization was granted. NACAD resources may only be used for explicit and documented purposes through a project approved by the NACAD User Advisory Committee. Projects will be approved for a maximum term of two (2) years.
Users assume full responsibility for familiarizing themselves with this documentation, particularly regarding compliance with resource limits, proper use of queuing systems, file systems, storage services, and other computational resources offered by NACAD.
The login/front-end nodes of NACAD computing systems are reserved solely for compilation, loading, and job submission preparation for the execution queue system. Running computationally intensive tasks or high I/O load processes on front-end nodes causes severe overloading and compromises stability for the user community as a whole. Inappropriate processes running on front-end nodes will be automatically terminated, and the user will be notified. Users who repeatedly violate these rules will have their system access revoked and must contact NACAD to request access restoration.
NACAD data storage resources aim to provide the user community with high-speed, shared storage facilities for applications utilizing NACAD resources. Stored data must be associated with projects previously approved by the NACAD User Advisory Committee. Users storing data not associated with an approved project may lose their rights to use NACAD resources. All users assume the responsibility to read the information provided in the corresponding User Guide .
Data Retention
Upon the completion or expiration of a project, all data in the /home and /scratch directories will be retained in NACAD storage systems for 60 (sixty) days.
Files located in the /scratch area that remain unaccessed for a period of 30 (thirty) days may be purged without prior notice.
Users Accounts
An account provides access to NACAD resources and identifies an individual user. For each approved project, the project coordinator will designate the users authorized to hold access accounts. The project coordinator's account remains active for the duration of the project. User accounts are valid for a maximum of 180 days and may be renewed by the coordinator during the active project period. Upon receiving an account, the user unconditionally agrees to the terms of use set forth in this document and acknowledges understanding the operating manuals for the systems.
Each account on NACAD computing systems is associated with a password set by the user during their initial login. This password is non-transferable and strictly personal.
The local computational environment may be customized by the user, and any required software should, whenever possible, be compiled and installed locally by the user. In exceptional cases, software compilation/installation may be requested from the NACAD technical team via email to the operational support service, as instructed on the Support page.
Except in cases of system failures, hardware/software maintenance, or operating system upgrades, NACAD guarantees data integrity provided data is maintained within the user's home directory during the account's validity period (in this context, the working directory is identified by the $HOME environment variable). Performing periodic backups to independent storage media is entirely the user's responsibility. NACAD is not responsible for backing up user data.
AUsers are also responsible for staying informed about system event schedules, which are regularly communicated via email or through announcements on the NACAD user portal.
Passwords
Users of NACAD computing systems must select strong, unique passwords. All passwords must meet the following requirements:
- - Must not contain the account name or parts of the user's name.
- - Must be at least 8 (eight) characters long.
- - Must contain a combination of at least three of the following character types: uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number, and special symbols.
Account Renewal
Accounts expire 180 days after creation. Both the Project Coordinator and the User will be notified by email regarding account expiration. Accounts may only be renewed upon request by the project coordinator..
In cases where a user requests account termination or fails to request account renewal, NACAD is immediately and completely relieved of any commitment to store files associated with that account.
Account Termination
NACAD reserves the right to terminate a user account without reservation or prior notice under one or more of the following circumstances:
- - Inactivity for a period of 90 days or more;
- - Password compromise and/or repeated security breaches by third parties;
- - Misuse (use for purposes other than those stated upon account creation);
- - Non-compliance with any terms of use set forth herein.
The project coordinator is responsible for notifying NACAD of any changes to the email address or phone number of users associated with their project. NACAD assumes no responsibility for maintaining accounts or associated files if communication fails due to outdated contact information.
NACAD reserves the right to inspect files associated with a user account or project without reservation or prior notice whenever misuse or non-compliance with this policy is suspected.
Rules for Users of NACAD Computing Systems
Users must strictly adhere to the following rules:
- - Sharing account credentials is strictly prohibited.
- - A user account must be linked to a single project.
- - The project coordinator is responsible for notifying NACAD when a team member should be deactivated due to departure or project conclusion.
- - Intellectual property rights must always be respected in accordance with Brazilian industrial and intellectual property laws.
- - Never attempt to bypass authentication procedures on any NACAD resource to access unauthorized systems.
- - Never deliberately access, exploit, or retrieve any information or resource without prior authorization.
- - Never use computational resources for commercial purposes or personal gain contrary to the objectives of the associated project.
- - Never engage in activities deemed illegal under local, national, or international laws.
- - Never create, store, use, or transmit data that infringes on property rights or software licensing terms.
- - Do not perform activities that cause moral or material damage to NACAD, or that result in operational degradation, data loss, or data corruption.
- - Do not engage in activities that interfere with the use of NACAD resources by other users.
- - Never engage in activities that compromise user privacy.
- - Never engage in activities involving the use or distribution of malicious or illicit software.
- - Always acknowledge NACAD in publications and/or research results that leveraged its resources.
Disciplinay Actions
Penalties for violations of NACAD usage policies and rules include, but are not limited to:
- - Verbal or written warnings.
- - Revocation of access privileges to NACAD computing systems.
- - Termination of the project(s) at NACAD.
